How do we spread the love? By knitting for charity and giving something to those in need.
What could be more rewarding than knitting for charity? Using our hands to make something that comforts a person in need? There are so many opportunities out there to create a warm soft item that soothes the soul, helps another and allows us to do what we love.
When I started researching charities that accept knitted goods I was amazed at how many there actually are.
Here I have listed some sites I found in the hope that it gets you motivated.
Think of all the charitable items you could make and donate with all those leftovers of yarn from completed projects! Preemie and chemo hats. Mittens, scarves and afghans for the homeless.
It got me thinking...what about in our own communities? I live in Central Oregon and we still have snow on the ground. I know there is at least one homeless shelter in town. We also have a very active animal shelter. Kitty beds and doggy blankets would surely be a blessing to an animal in a cage with a cement floor.
So let's get those creative juices flowing and make our world a little better place! I will continue to feature new charitable organizations as I come across them. If you know of a worthy cause let me know. Send me an email so I can check it out to share. And if you get really motivated and start one yourself I would love to hear about it.
