Cheap yarn - the what, why and where of Red Heart

Red Heart is one of the leaders in the cheap yarn (or inexpensive) category, and for good reason. They have a great line up of colors and styles to choose from. Almost all of their yarn is wash and dryable which makes it very user friendly for everyday use.

Red Heart is a division of the Coats and Clark Company. Their yarns are available at your local Wal-mart, Fred Meyer, Michaels Craft Stores and most variety stores.

Red Heart Light & Lofty is a Super Bulky (6) 100% Acrylic yarn that is nicely textured. Each skein is between 4.5-6 oz/ 105-140 yd (depending on color choice). We really like this yarn for Afghans. It has a great color palette and holds up well in the wash. There is no give (stretch) to this yarn so we don't like it for garments, but for between $3.50 - $5.00 it's great for larger projects.

Red Heart Super Saver Regular (15 colors), Econo (93 colors) and Jumbo (8 colors) is a great all purpose yarn. We like to use it for hats, Afghans, kids and doggie sweaters (it's not really soft but it's durable) and anything else that gets a lot of use. It's wash/dryable and very versatile. Each skein is between 2.5 - 16 oz and 121 - 835 yds (depending on Regular, Econo or Jumbo). The solid colors are 100% Acrylic and print/multis are 96% acrylic / 4% other fiber (does anyone know what that means?)

Our guys love it!

The complete line of Red Heart yarns is viewable here with all the pertinent info on each style.

As always, we would love to hear your opinion of Red Heart, your favorite variety or pictures of projects you have completed. So drop us a note and get knitting! knittin5@knitting-love.com
